LATEST RETRO MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Monster Squad’ (1987)

Axel Drive is an up and coming Stockholm-based artist. His synthwave track “Night” features influences from the late 70s to the early 90s.

March 29, 2019 — March saw a whopping five synthwave releases being validated for inclusion on the #PAXWAVE 2019 Spotify playlist. The month opened up with an explosive new track by darkwave legends Dance With the Dead and was followed up by several delicious #PAXWAVE entries to please any fan of music. Keep reading for the full story.

As suggested, #PAXWAVE Weekly’s first appetizer of the month was the guitar-infused track “Tension” by California’s own masters of darkwave, Dance With the Dead. Their new release literally explodes with energy and a sense of danger, and, as expected, features a set of familiar instrumentation and heavy guitar play. It’s becoming more and more difficult not to admire everything the celebrated darkwave band produces!

The second dish to be served was Denver-based Straplocked’s Diamond Dust” track, a mindful composition that’s part of the Nightstar: Alliance soundtrack. Straplocked’s release features unique outrun and Dreamwave elements that will send you back in time for a moment of relaxing meditation.

The third course on March’s menu was Ray Gun Hero’s deliciously served “Toxic Sunset.” The new track is a slightly hypnotic contribution to the cyberpunk-synthwave library of the world and features a touch of darkness powered by masterfully gloomed beats. We think the track’s urban and electrifying accents make “Toxic Sunset” an absolute masterpiece.

The fourth track-serving of the month went to PYLOT’s “Lost” and is a large-sounding composition that features a distinct cyberpunk soundscape accompanied by lush synth melodies and energizing rhythms. PYLOT burst onto the synthwave scene in 2015 and has since then established himself as one of the most innovative and recognizable creators in and around the world of synthwave.

The fifth and final entry for the month is the newly released “Night” by Stockholm-based Axel Drive. This work from the exceptionally gifted and upcoming Swedish synthwave-musician is proof that 80’s rock, pop, and synth is still hot. “Night” is a sleek and refreshing dessert, and we can’t wait to see what Axel has in store for us in the future!
